A WELL_DRESSED YOUNG MAN named Geo. M. Smith was about the streets last Friday offering gold (?) spectacles for sale for 50 cents [$13 today], claiming he had found them. He was soon arrested on the charge of peddling without a license and in default of payment of $5.75 fine [$150], he was given 15 days at Ann Arbor. Marshal Ross discovered $6.50 on the fellow when he searched him. --Item from the April 18, 1895 Ypsilantian newspaper.
