Put the Hammer Down: It's Nailed!

I don't have many skills worth mentioning, but I do pride myself on nailing wordcounts. When I was writing 450-word art reviews for the Observer, I challenged myself to turn in reviews that were precisely 450 words long. Working on book manuscript now. I have to provide between 35,000 and 40,000 words. I pushed as close to 40,000 as I could to give readers the most bang for the buck. Just finished editing. Final wordcount?

(drumroll)

40,000.

(sighs with ultra-nerdy satisfaction)...

This is especially strange to me as I spend most of my days, by preference and by luck, alone in total silence.

It's a bit odd to me that all these 40 thousand words came pouring from someone who usually doesn't say a word to anyone all day long. Except to the dogs. Annnyways. Still a bit giddy from nailing that count. Woo.

I feel the same way about typing in twitters that are exactly 140 characters; perhaps just the attention deficit version of your 40 kiloword opuses (opera?).
