Aug. 22 Fri. Signs of improvement.
Aug. 23 Sat. But awful sick.
Aug. 24 Sun. About same.
Aug. 25 Mon. Better. Sat up in bed.

Poor Carrie! I have been sick before as long as four days -- it was terrible! I can't imagine being so sick I couldn't rise for weeks on end. Where was Lillian in all this???
Lisele: Good question: I don't know where Lillian was.
Given my cynicism I can't help but think that this illness was no more than a reaction to the ingestion of the mercury in the calomel she took. Mercury poisoning. Poor Carrie!
