Mystery Photo: Can You Identify This Location?

The most recent Mystery Photo was smacked down in a trice by an alert reader who identified not only the location, but the altitude!

This photo, however, may prove to be just a bit trickier. I won't give any hints since there are many within the photo itself. Can you identify this mystery location and the perspective?

I'm going with a view looking south from the Congress St./Michigan Ave. bridge just east of downtown.

Dag blast it! How am I ever going to stump you people?! OK, I'll post a comparison later today with more info on this mill...and I will redouble my efforts to find an Ypsi historical photo that will actually stump one of you eagle-eyed folks.

Sheesh.

It was a tough call - the river is much higher in the photo than today, but the turn in the background and buildings to the right are pretty distinctive. Keep up the great work! I enjoy visiting your site.

The river indeed used to be, according to Hinsdale, about 5 feet higher than it is today as of about 1820 or so when industrialization & damming started up. Next time you're in Riverside Park, eyeball the river and estimate how much of the park would be flooded were it 5 feet higher--a lot would be marsh!

You did great though, spot on, BP. Thanks also for your nice comment.
