The 1919 Diary of Ypsilanti High School Teacher Carrie Hardy

Part of a year-long weekly serialization of Ypsilanti high school math teacher Carrie Hardy's diary.

Kind readers may recall that last week Carrie was getting in the swing of early-semester activities. She handed out keys to each class level. She also lost a bit of weight, and said she was not "doing much work out side of school."

Oct. 7 Tues. Lillian not in school today. Drove over with my washing this A.M. Also drove after school. Tires leak.

Oct. 8 Wed. L. back in school. No chapel today. Prof. Laird is sick again.

Oct. 9 Thurs. Bo't new pink waist at Sweet's $9.75, Crepe de chien [sic]. My! but everything is high.

Oct. 10 Fri. After school the Parent Teacher Club met. Great discussion concerning dress. Low necks and georgettes [georgette is a somewhat sheer fabric --ed.].

Oct. 11 Sat. Patched right front tire. In P.M. drove with Miss Gieske to Ann Arbor to shop. Bo't white waist + skirt.

Oct. 12 Sun. Put up clean curtains in front room. Did not go to church. In P.M. Lillian, Mrs. Arbaugh + Bobbie + I drove-Romulus &c.

Oct. 13 Mon. Teachers' meeting after school. Discussed the giving of 4 parties for students this year.

Oct. 14 Tues. Everything about as usual. No luncheons upstairs this week. Go down to lunch room about 11 o'clock.

Thanks for reading; tune in next Tuesday for the next series!
